LA BAMBA
When everyone was training hard during the first 3 months (Basic Military Training)
in the army, I was strumming my guitar. I have to thank my Chief Officer
for that as he had assigned me to play for the army's officers golf dinner.
I was known as "la bamba" then.
Unfortunately, after the 3 months of happy days,
I had to to go back to reality and suffer like any other serviceman would suffer for
the next 21 months.
GETTING REAL
I have never thought of playing music as a living. So I went out to look for a job
after my army. During my working days as a courier with Federal Express in 1992, I met Rina.
We got married in 1994.
KARAOKE + MOTORBIKING??
I think the karaoke is a fantastic invention. It let us play make believe singers.
We could be Frank Sinatra / the Carpenters / P.Ramlee, whoever we wish to be.
For me, when you've got all eyes glued on you with mouths wide open while you'll stretching your vocal chords to Frank Sinatra's "My Way"; boy! that sure makes
me feel like a SUPERSTAR!
"What has motorbiking got to do with karaoke?" you asked. Nothing actually. It's
just one of the 2 things that Rina and I love to do. We used to cruise along the
east coast of Malaysia on my Shadow 1100 enjoying the sea breeze, the cattles, the trees or
just speed along the Malaysia north south highway to Penang / Genting Highlands /
Cameron etc. Our friends said we are "gila", well, I'd say "It's sheer FUN!"
During those first couple of married life, I did not touch any guitar.
